Lutheran Guesthouse

The Lutheran Guesthouse is located at the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem where the Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim Quarters meet.

The historic yet now very convenient building, built in 1860 by königliche Baurat (“Royal Architect”) in Jerusalem Dr. Konrad Schick on ruins that dated back to the times of the Crusades, was initially a private residence.

The Order of St. John used it as an eye clinic from 1948 until 1964, when the Evangelical Jerusalem Foundation bought it and turned it into the “Lutheran Guesthouse”.

With its comfortable rooms, modern kitchen and beautiful garden, it offers ideal conditions for people who would like to spend time in a historical setting.

The roof terrace and the constantly blooming garden afford breathtaking views over the Old City to the Church of the Redeemer, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock, the Mount of Olives and beyond to the mountains of Jordan.

The sights and places of pilgrimage holy to Christians, Jews and Muslims can all be reached on foot, as can the colourful souk (market) with its pervasive aroma of oriental spices. The area also enjoys good transport connections thanks to its proximity to the Jaffa Gate.
