Ecumenical relations

One of the most important areas of our community's work encompasses ecumenical relations and interfaith dialogue.

Around sixty different Christian churches are represented in Jerusalem; their members worship in Arabic, Greek, Aramaic, Armenian, Russian, Hebrew, Coptic, English, German and many other languages – and for the most part also use these languages in their everyday lives. They are all at home here, since Christianity in Jerusalem has been multi-ethnic since time immemorial.

In his capacity as spiritual director, the Provost represents the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) in the community of churches in Jerusalem.

Here you will find Information about the most important denominations.

Our direct partner is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), which is directed by Bishop Sani Ibrahim Azar.

We also have special links with Protestant communities that worship in other languages:

Danish – e-mail: jerusalem@israel.dk
Dutch – e-Mail: anthonissen@solcon.nl
Korean – e-mail: kang9269@hotmail.com
Swedish – e-mail: johan.engvall@svenskakyrkan.se
Finnish – e-mail: info.felmcenter@felm.org

We also endeavour to maintain good relations with our Jewish and Muslim neighbours. The renewal of the relationship between Christianity and Judaism is a matter of great importance to us.
