Im Herzen der Altstadt von Jerusalem, im Schnittpunkt vom Armenischen, Christlichen, Jüdischen und Muslimischen Viertel, liegt das Gästehaus des Propstes.

Das historische und heute zugleich komfortable Gebäude wurde 1860 vom „königlichen Baurat in Jerusalem”, Dr. Konrad Schick, auf  Ruinen der Kreuzfahrerzeit errichtet. Es diente zunächst als Wohnhaus. Der Johanniterorden nutzte es ab 1948 als Augenklinik, bevor es die „Evangelische Jerusalem Stiftung” 1964 erwarb und seitdem als „Gästehaus des Propstes” betreibt.

The roof terrace and the constantly blooming garden afford breathtaking views over the Old City to the Church of the Redeemer, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock, the Mount of Olives and beyond to the mountains of Jordan.

The sights and places of pilgrimage holy to Christians, Jews and Muslims can all be reached on foot, as can the colourful souk (market) with its pervasive aroma of oriental spices. The area also enjoys good transport connections thanks to its proximity to the Jaffa Gate.
